COTAPSA's Board Passes New By-Law
COTAPSA’s Board of Directors recently passed a Bylaw (attached for your information) that ensures that the voices of our ordinary Members do not get overshadowed by those other Members who are actively working against COTAPSA.
The Bylaw allows the Board to take action against COTAPSA Members who are active Members of a rival organization, or actively working against our membership. This Bylaw provides a process that gives any Member the opportunity to explain their actions to the Board, and any action requires a two-thirds majority to pass.
To be clear, we know that the vast majority of our Members have been, and will continue to be supportive of COTAPSA. This Bylaw would only be used in the extraordinary circumstance that one of our Members is supporting a rival organization or exhibiting conduct that is detrimental to COTAPSA.
This Bylaw is an interim measure until the revised Constitution is in place.
By-Law #2 - Suspension and Termination of Membership
Recently, COTAPSA asked Members to participate in a Survey as part of COTAPSA’s ongoing consultation on our Constitution. The Survey results will be presented at a meeting planned for the near future.
COTAPSA is also in the process of hosting Town Hall meetings as part of the Constitution consultation process. If you have missed a Town Hall meeting, there are three more left:
Wednesday, October 6, 2010 – North York Civic Centre, Committee Room #1
Wednesday, October 13, 2010 – Metro Hall, Room 308
Tuesday, October 19, 2010 – Etobicoke Civic Centre, Main Boardroom
Please try to attend and let your voice be heard.
As always if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us by telephone or email.
