COTAPSA's Response to Tentative Union Agreement
COTAPSA is pleased that Local 416, Local 79, and the City have reached tentative agreements. We are confident and optimistic that these tentative agreements will be ratified by all parties and end the strike.
COTAPSA would like to once again state that it is the non-union employees of the City of Toronto who maintain the vital services for the citizens of Toronto during this strike – not the Mayor, not the Council.
We do so as professionals at great sacrifice to our personal lives and our families, many working 10-12 hrs. per day up to 7 days per week. Some are in lock-up working 24 hrs per day, 7 days per week.
We are the City employees who received 0% in 2009 and 1% in 2010.
COTAPSA looks forward to seeing the details of the CUPE settlements.
We will then consult with our Members who we are sure will want COTAPSA to urge the City to re-visit compensation for non-union employees.
COTAPSA is confident that City Council will want to treat all employees of the City of Toronto the same – fair and equal treatment for both union and non-union employees of the City.
